BUH FOUNDATION MONTHLY LOTTERY TICKET SALES START TUESDAY

North Battleford, SK - February 16, 2017 – Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation Monthly Lottery tickets will be available starting Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at the BUH Foundation office.

Proceeds of the 2017-2018 Monthly Lottery have been allocated towards the purchase of a BiPAP Machine for the Respiratory Therapy Department at BUH.  BiPAP (Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure) provides two pressures. Its inspiratory pressure makes it easier to breathe while the expiratory pressure helps to provide oxygen. This results in maximizing the transport of oxygen into and carbon dioxide out of the lungs and blood. It is used in many critical medical conditions, including cardiac compromised patients, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pneumonia.

The Monthly Lottery is an annual fundraiser with a total of 158 draws over the next year.  Tickets can be purchased for $110.00 each and there are only 1,300 tickets for sale.  The Previous Purchaser draw for $1,000 will take place on Thursday April 13, 2017 and in order to be eligible for this draw, qualifying ticket buyers (have purchased a ticket in one or more of the last three years) must purchase their tickets by 5:00 pm Friday, April 7, 2017.  Early Bird ticket purchasers who buy their tickets prior to 5:00 pm Thursday, April 13, 2017 will be eligible for an additional chance at $1,000.00 to be drawn Friday, April 21, 2017. Following these two preliminary draws, monthly draws will take place, beginning April 28, 2017 with the last draw on Friday, March 30, 2018.  Thirteen prizes totaling $4,000.00 will be awarded every month, including the top prize of $1,000.00, second prize of $600.00, third prize of $400.00 and ten additional prizes of $200.00 each.

The Foundation is hopeful that ticket buyers will also consider giving a donation to assist in the purchase of two OZil® handpieces for the Cataract Program at BUH.  The Cataract Program performs about 800 cataract removal surgeries every year. During cataract removal surgery, the lens inside your eye that has

become cloudy is removed and replaced with an artificial lens to restore clear vision. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes, without complications, and is typically performed on an outpatient basis. An integral part of the surgery is the actual implement, the OZil® handpiece, that breaks down the cataract and removes it all from the eye. After each surgery these implements are sterilized and cooled down. In order to perform the maximum number of cataract surgeries in a day there needs to be a full set of the OZil® handpieces available, as the fiber optics in this equipment gets damaged if used when still warm from sterilization.  If your donation is $10 or greater a charitable tax receipt will be issued to you.

The Board of Directors and staff of BUH Foundation are grateful and thankful for all the past support shown for the Monthly Lottery, and wish all ticket purchasers of the 2017 Monthly Lottery the best of luck!  Thank you for helping us provide healing tools that preserve the health and life of our community.

Tickets are available at the BUH Foundation Office or in Gratefully Yours Gift & Food Shop located in the Main Lobby of BUH, or by calling the Foundation office at 306 446 6652.
