Seventh Anniversary of Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament
North Battleford, SK – The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Battlefords Union Hospital has received two portable Telemetry Units thanks to 194 golfers and 36 sponsors in 2002. The Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament going into its seventh year has raised a total of $105,000 to purchase medical items to enhance patient care at BUH.
Last year’s golf tournament raised $20,000 and purchased two portable Telemetry Units for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). These units transmit the patient’s heart rate and rhythm by radio signals to the central monitor in the ICU. For the patient this means more mobility while at the same time providing the physician and nursing staff with timely intervention and the information needed to treat the patient. The benefits to BUH include increasing monitoring capabilities and eliminating admissions to the ICU for monitoring purposes only.
It is with the support of local businesses and organizations from the Battlefords that the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament is able to ensure its success and purchase such equipment. BCU Financial has always been at the forefront as the Master Sponsor since the tournament’s inception. To date they have contributed a total of $37,000. Brian Maunula, Chief Executive Officer of BCU Financial describes the essence of their support for the program. “One of our strongest corporate values is ‘commitment to community.’ To us, this encapsulates much more than simply being an active, economic contributor to the business world. It also means caring about the standard of life members of our community enjoy; striving to find those special opportunities that may help improve our social infrastructures; looking for ways in which we can partner with other community leaders for the overall good of our community and its people.” He continued by adding, “The Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament is such a vehicle and we are extremely proud to have been its Master Sponsor for the last seven years. It is an active demonstration of the power of many – together, we all contribute to and benefit from a strong and vital community.
“BCU Financial are leaders in providing support for community projects. Projects that benefit not only their members, but also all members of our community. It is this positive image that they project that helps to contribute to the success of this tournament,” comments Al Gotto, BUH Foundation Vice Chair and Tournament Organizer “I thank them for their support over the years and look forward to future years with them as part of our community.”
The tournament is set for June 2, 2003 at the beautiful North Battleford Golf and Country Club and caters to golfers of all abilities. “Emphasis has always been on fun for all the participants,” comments Carey Tollefson, past Foundation Chair and WPMGT committee member. “That is why we are sticking with the Texas Scramble format. Everyone gets a chance to contribute to their team’s final score.”
The tournament will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a shotgun start. Registration will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. The entry fee is once again $100 which includes green fees, tournament souvenir, banquet, prizes and most importantly FUN!
