WPMGT to Purchase a Laparoscopy Unit
North Battleford, SK - Golf and equipment for major surgery are not usually related topics of conversation, but thanks to 185 golfers, 36 sponsors, 61 door prize donors and 26 volunteers this year we have one because of the other.
Dedicated sponsors, golfers and volunteers can be attributed to the success of the fifth anniversary of the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament. The $25,000 raised will purchase a Laporoscopy Unit for the Operating Room. This vital piece of medical equipment enables surgeons to do non-invasive surgery, by allowing them to operate through very small incisions and view their work via camera on a TV monitor. The benefits include minimizing trauma, shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery times. This purchase also allows our surgeons to perform more operations locally. The item has been ordered and is expected to arrive in early fall. “With an average of 3,500 surgeries been performed annually at BUH the addition of the Laporocopy Unit will help to ensure continuing quality care for surgical patients at Battlefords Union Hospital,” comments Janice Sander, BUH Foundation Executive Director.
To date the tournament has raised an impressive $95,000 over its five year history. With the tournament’s focus being on fun, it is sure to continue raising awareness and proceeds for the BUH Foundation and hence for Battlefords Union Hospital.
Tournament organizers are already thinking about next year and would like to invite everyone to come on out on June 3, 2002 for a day of golf, fun, friendship and helping to make a difference in patient care at Battlefords Union Hospital.
