BUH Foundation Monthly Lottery Celebrates its Tenth Year

North Battleford, SK - The end of February marks the kick off for the tenth year of the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation Monthly Lottery. This year-round lottery is one of two lotteries that the Foundation holds annually to raise funds for medical equipment at BUH.

In celebration of the public’s support, the Hospital Foundation is adding a tenth anniversary draw of a $5,000 to be drawn on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 and an additional two hundred tickets for more people to get in on the draws.

Tickets for the Monthly Cash Lottery go on sale Monday, February 23 and are $104 each. The lottery will be giving away $55,000 in total cash prizes - $4,000 in 13 draws per month. The prize structure per month is one $1,000, one $600, one $400 and ten $200 draws. An additional Previous Purchaser and Early Bird draw of $1,000 each and the tenth anniversary draw of $5,000 makes you eligible for up to 159 draws. The cutoff for the Previous Purchaser draw is Monday, March 29, 2004 by 5:00 p.m. and the draw will be made Wednesday March 31, 2004.

“With only twelve hundred tickets available for sale and 159 draws you have approximately a one in eighteen chance of winning, unless you have my luck,” says Janice Sander, executive director, BUH Foundation. “But regardless of luck, you do get to help support your hospital in purchasing valuable medical equipment.”

The Monthly Lottery traditionally raises about $25,000. Last year’s proceeds purchased an Electronic Fetal Monitor and assisted the 2003 Festival of Trees with the purchase of a Neonatal Isolette. The Electronic Fetal Monitor monitors baby’s heartbeat while in-utero. It assesses fetal health during labour and measures the frequency and duration of contractions. The Neonatal Isolette is an incubator that provides a warm oxygenated environment for high risk infants.
