North Battleford, SK - A local winner of the 2001 BUH
Foundation $100,000 Cash Lottery turned his $1,000 winnings
into a Cardiac Event Monitor for the Electro Cardiogram
Department at BUH.
This device is used to assist in diagnosing cardiac
conditions on an outpatient basis, while allowing the
patient mobility to carry on with day-to-day activities.
When the patient feels symptoms that could be cardiac
related, he/she presses the record button. The data
is downloaded by telephone to Cardiac Technologists for
interpretation and results are forwarded to the physician.
Previously, anyone needing such a device had to wait for
one to become available from a Saskatoon Hospital.
Glen Marion Day of Cochin recently wore the monitor for
one week to determine possible heart problems. "It gave me
a sense of confidence that my problem will now be diagnosed
and treated," she noted.
The donation was an open gift; that is to say it was
undesignated and will be applied to areas of greatest need
at BUH.
The donation was an open gift; that is to say it was
undesignated and will be applied to areas of greatest need
at BUH. "Undesignated donations allow the Foundation to
address the changing needs and priorities of the hospital.
Thank you to our friend of the Foundation, who wishes to
remain anonymous, for choosing the hospital to benefit from
his generosity, allowing us to address these needs" says
Jim Peach, Chairman, BUH Foundation.
When added all together, undesignated donations such as
these create the purchasing power necessary to enable the
Foundation to continue to purchase larger, more expensive
medical equipment for BUH," says Janice Sander, executive
director, BUH Foundation.
